Hope Coming Ministries (HCM) believes there is a relational connection between the research conducted over the past 50 years in psychoanalysis and neuroscience and the correlation to the profound truths that God gives in the bible about the human mind, and how we relate to each other, our communities and the world.
As a result we believe that Narrative Therapy which is a collaborative work with the client and counselor, centers on the client as the expert of their own life, and is best revealed through considering an individual’s life story. As that story is revealed, patterns begin to develop that the counselor can begin to pursue for further data where commitments and beliefs began. By uncovering these often traumatic places in an individual’s life, meaningful movement can be made toward the forgiveness and redemption of ourselves and others.
Neuroscience research is central as well, at HCM we believe that memory and our ability to change our thought process is real, yet it must be purposeful and focused and is a process that ultimately continues for a lifetime. As a result HCM works to give clients tools that will help individuals become resilient and effective in the collaboration of future relationships in their homes, communities and world at large by better understanding their brain function. This understanding can greatly help individuals approach situations and relationships that cause a disintegration of one’s brain process, have greater awareness of impending potential for heading down that wrong, self destructive, shame filled path yet again. Once an individual begins to see or sense these moments of disintegration approaching, they will then be able to choose a more thoughtful way of interacting that holds the opportunity for growth and integration both with others and inside oneself.
HCM also believes that the matrix of the mind, body and soul are inseparable; meaning that the incorporation of our beliefs in God are as central to an individual’s existence as eating or breathing. We believe there is evidence of these correlations throughout the bible, leading us to allow our beliefs in God (not a particular denomination or affiliation) to complete the loop in what we view as individual wholeness. HCM holds that the exemption of any of these three elements will always leave a person with an incomplete view of themselves. This does not mean we only serve the Christian community, nevertheless we would want all clients to know that the exclusion of any of the three elements will become problematic for a person moving forward.
How do we believe healing the mind, body and soul are connected in the bible?
A very central starting point for us that encapsulates many of the individual aspects of the bible that would tether directly to a healthy mind and body are stated simply in Romans 12:2.
“But don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” NLT
We do believe that God was the architect for our mind or brain and with recent research neuroscience has proved that we have the ability to change the way we think as we get older. Working with clients we are able to identify old ways of thinking that keep us continually repeating behavior that sabotages or undermines what we want most for ourselves or our relationships (implicit memory). Rewiring our mind is possible just as Paul writes in Romans, as our perceptions and thinking changes so will our memory and our ability to live into the future that is “leaving our old life behind”. The world tells us that achievement, money, fame, sex, drugs, etc, will provide the happiness each of us desires, yet most of us know after years or decades of those pursuits they lead to nothing but loneliness, isolation, brokenness, anxiety, depression and despair. Is it any wonder that 50% - 90% of those that enter rehabilitation for their addiction relapse? This is the best treatment the world has to offer! Thankfully there is another way.
If you desire to live this life to its fullest and are willing to put in the hard work so that when you wake up in the morning you know without a doubt that you are doing exactly what you are made to do, then set up an appointment. The result will be a clearer sense of where you should be moving in life, who you should and shouldn’t be spending your time with and even what you may want to pursue with the days, weeks, months, years or decades that you have left to live here on earth.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us:
“ For we are Gods masterpiece” NLT
"For we are the product of His hand, heaven's poetry etched on lives..." The Voice
Does your life currently look how you think a masterpiece would look?
When you look at your life, would the telling of your life story sound like heaven's poetry? Why not?
The one sure thing about this statement is that you already possess it, what in your life has kept your life narrative from being seen as a masterpiece or sounding like heaven's poetry?
At HCM we believe that the church body is an element to living to our fullest potential; but if each of us is the church as the Greek word ekklesia suggests before translated into English in the New Testament; wouldn’t it stand to reason that the first place to begin on this journey is inside you? Then when you interact in your chosen church family and beyond you will know what you bring instead of having someone tell you what you are supposed to do. HCM is not affiliated with a particular church or denomination and we don't believe it is our place to suggest where any individual pursues their relationship with God.
Set an appointment, its free; if HCM is the place where your journey begins or continues than we would feel privileged to be a part of that.
